Add Confidence, Notes, Size, Depth, and Location

Fill in the contact details that matter for handoff.

Use this when

You want to record size estimates, a confidence rating, free-text notes, or check the auto-filled depth and GPS for a contact before sharing it.

Before you start

The contact must already exist. Create one with the Contact Pin tool or open an existing pin from the contacts list in the sidebar.

Add a label

  1. Open the Contact dialog.
  2. Type a name in the Label field. This is how the contact appears in the sidebar and in exports.

Set confidence

  1. Click the Confidence dropdown.
  2. Choose Low, Medium, or High.

Enter size measurements

The dialog has three size fields: Length, Width, and Height. Units match your current display setting (metric or imperial).

You can type values directly, or use the measure buttons next to each field to draw on the sonar canvas:

  1. Click the ruler icon next to Length or Width to activate the Ruler tool and measure that dimension on the sonar.
  2. Click the height icon next to Height to activate the Shadow Height tool and estimate vertical extent from the shadow.
  3. After completing the measurement on canvas, the dialog reopens with the value filled in.

Add notes

  1. Click the Notes field.
  2. Type any free-text notes about the contact.

Review auto-filled fields

The bottom of the dialog shows read-only information filled automatically when you placed the pin:

  • Latitude and Longitude — GPS position of the click frame
  • Depth — water depth reported by the sonar at that frame
  • Ping — the frame number in the recording

These fields cannot be edited. If the values look wrong, the original frame may have had no GPS fix.

Save

Click Save to write all fields to the contact record. The contact is saved in a sidecar file alongside the recording.

What you should see

The sidebar entry for this contact reflects the updated label. Size values and notes are visible when you reopen the Contact dialog.

If it does not work

  • Measure button does nothing — the Contact dialog may have closed unexpectedly. Reopen it by clicking the pin, then try the measure button again.
  • Depth shows 0 — the recording file did not contain depth data for that frame.
  • Changes are lost after closing the app — the sidecar file may not have write permission. Check that the recording folder is not read-only.
