Take a Snapshot
Export a still image of the current viewer state.
Use this when
You want to save a still image of what is currently on screen in the viewer. Snapshots capture the full canvas at high quality and save it as a PNG or JPEG file on your computer.
Before you start
A recording must be open. Decide where on your computer you want to save the file. You will pick the folder in the snapshot dialog.
Take a snapshot
- Click the Snapshot button (camera icon) in the viewer toolbar, or press S. Alternatively, use the File > Export menu.
- The Save snapshot dialog opens.
- In the Name field, type a filename. The file extension (
.pngor.jpeg) appears automatically as a suffix; you do not need to type it. - Click the folder icon next to the Location field to choose a save folder. A system folder picker opens; navigate to your destination and confirm.
- Click Save. You can also press Enter when the Name field is active.
What you should see
A toast notification reading Snapshot saved appears briefly at the bottom of the screen. The file appears in the folder you selected. The snapshot is rendered at high quality regardless of the live render quality setting.
If it does not work
- Save button is greyed out — either the Name field is empty or no folder has been chosen. Fill in both fields before saving.
- Folder picker does not open — click directly on the folder icon at the right end of the Location field.
- "Snapshot could not be saved" error — the destination folder may no longer exist, or the application does not have write permission for that location. Pick a different folder such as your Desktop or Documents.
- File is missing after save — check the exact folder shown in the Location field. The file uses the name you entered with the correct extension appended.
